Once you listen to The Bones of J.R. Jones, you might feel like you were standing in the middle of a quiet midnight highway with only your heartbeat and the hum of far-off neon to keep you company, then, Radio Waves (Deluxe) is going to feel like a long, steady exhale. Released on October 17, 2025, this expanded edition takes Jonathan Linaberry’s already intimate world and cracks it open just a little more, just enough to let in the studio ghosts, the scribbled notebooks, even the electricity of a real room full of real people.

Linaberry has always had a way of singing like he’s coaxing the truth out from under a floorboard, and the production on Radio Waves leans into that gift. Everything is purposeful, the hush of drum machines, the glow of synth pads that rise and fall like breathing, the acoustic strings that hold the whole thing steady. The original album, released earlier in the summer, was praised for its bare-bones storytelling and quiet tension. Here, on the deluxe edition, that feeling is deeper. You can practically hear the fingerprints on the guitar strings.

Alternate takes that show how a single shift in phrasing or tempo can change the emotional temperature of a song. B-sides that feel less like leftovers and more like late-night confessions. Four live recordings from Le Poisson Rouge, where Linaberry’s songs loosen up, stretch their legs, and let the room breathe with them.

Tracks like “Car Crash,” “Savages,” and “Shameless” already carried a kind of smoky gravity on the original album. Hearing the alternate versions and demos lets you feel the heartbeat underneath, the moment before a song becomes a song. The live tracks, though, that’s where the magic really happens. Linaberry’s quiet intensity somehow feels louder when you can hear an audience listening back to him. There’s a warmth in those recordings that doesn’t exist anywhere else on the album, deluxe or otherwise.

Radio Waves (Deluxe) shows the full ecosystem of Linaberry’s creation, the polished studio versions, the fragile first drafts, and the living, breathing performances. You get to see every angle of The Bones of J.R. Jones at work without losing the spell that makes his music feel like it belongs to the night. The whole project feels like a lantern held up in a dark room: soft, flickering, honest.
