"Strings, Soul, and Storytelling: Kingfish’s Expanded Hard Road Journey"
(Artist Update)
Written by: Ginny Gaines
Blues guitar sensation Christone “Kingfish” Ingram returned with an expanded edition of his album Hard Road, released on October 16, 2026. Titled Hard Road (Extended), the new release adds four songs to the original 11-track album, giving fans more music from one of today's most exciting young blues musicians. Released through his own Red Zero Records, the expanded collection continues to showcase an artist who respects the roots of the blues while bringing his own modern approach to the music.
Born in Clarksdale, Mississippi, a town famous for its deep connection to blues history, Ingram grew up surrounded by the music that helped shape his future. He quickly made a name for himself with his impressive guitar skills, strong voice, and ability to connect traditional blues with rock, soul, funk, and other modern styles. His career took a major step forward with his 2019 debut album, Kingfish, which earned a Grammy nomination. In 2021, he followed it with 662, which won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Since then, he has continued building a reputation as a musician determined to keep the blues alive for a new generation.
The original Hard Road explored some of the real life experiences that come with growing older, dealing with relationships, and trying to balance personal life with the demands of a music career. Rather than focusing only on his guitar playing, Ingram used the album to share a more personal side of himself. The expanded edition keeps those original songs while adding four new tracks: “The Chase,” “Train,” “(Still) Nothin’ But Your Love,” and “Two. Four. Eight,” featuring British drummer and producer Yussef Dayes. “The Chase” arrived ahead of the album on September 30, giving fans an early taste of the additional material.
The four new songs make this edition especially interesting for listeners who already know the original album. “The Chase” deals with attraction and the temptation to pursue someone even when the situation could lead to trouble. “Train” and “(Still) Nothin’ But Your Love” add further material to the collection, while “Two. Four. Eight” brings Ingram together with Yussef Dayes, a musician known for his work in contemporary jazz. The collaboration highlights Ingram’s willingness to work with artists from different musical backgrounds while keeping his own blues identity at the center of the project.
The expanded release also arrives as Ingram continues to bring Hard Road to audiences on the road. His October 2026 appearance on CBS Saturday Morning included performances of “Bad Like Me,” “Voodoo Charm,” and “(Still) Nothin’ But Your Love,” introducing viewers to both the original album and its new material. With his powerful guitar playing, soulful voice, and growing catalogue of music, Ingram continues to prove that the blues can remain connected to its past without being stuck there.
For longtime fans and newcomers alike, Hard Road (Extended) offers another opportunity to appreciate an artist who has worked hard to establish himself as a leading figure in modern blues. The four additional tracks give the original album more depth and provide another look at Ingram’s musical development. With his Mississippi roots, award-winning career, and willingness to explore new musical territory, Kingfish continues to carry the blues forward while making the music his own.
