"GÖRGE Brings Houston's Noisiest New Sound to the Alternative Scene"

There are some great bands coming out of Houston, Texas. One of them is GÖRGE, a band that describes itself simply as “alternative.” The band describes their sound as “VERY loud” with “obnoxious feedback and noise.”
GÖRGE consists of Matt Puente on bass guitar, Ariel Soto on lead guitar, Cris Guerrero on drums, and Eve Rodriguez on vocals and lead guitar. According to Matt, he and Eve are childhood friends, and they have been working on starting a musical project for a while now. It took a few tries and several changes to the lineup before finding the right people.
Frontwoman Eve mentions that there isn’t a specific meaning to their name. She likes that the word “sounds tough” despite its connotation. Its various interpretations drew her attention.
Each member has their own set of musical influences. Eve lists her influences as Fiona Apple and Hum. Ariel lists artists including Radiohead, Aphex Twin, and DJ Shadow. Matt pulls inspiration from Interpol and Christian Death while Cris favors Mac DeMarco and Wednesday. There’s no doubt that this diversity in influences makes its mark in GÖRGE’s sound.
The band’s latest single, “The Wrestler” was released in August and it truly exhibits that alternative, noisy sound that GÖRGE does so well. On the origin of “The Wrestler,” Cris, who doubles as the producer for the band, recounts that he approached his bandmates with chord progressions and riffs. This served as the foundation for the band to build on to. The song underwent several evolutions before reaching its final version.

Eve shares that the idea for “The Wrestler” came to her after watching Darren Aronofsky’s film of the same name. Along with Cris’s riffs, Ariel added a cinematic flare to the sound to complement the melody.
Live performances are a chance for them to showcase their colorful sound. Interacting with the crowd and each other on stage is part of what the band enjoys the most during their live shows. It provides a sense of validation and an opportunity to create a connection with everyone around them.
GÖRGE is currently working on re-recording old material and recording some songs that they’ve included in their shows. They are sure to keep their Instagram updated with anything new they have coming up.
