Sometimes the best music doesn't come from trying to write a hit song. Sometimes it comes from simply being honest. That's exactly what The Revivalists set out to do with their new album, Get It Honest, released on July 24, 2026. After nearly twenty years together, the New Orleans rock band has been through just about everything. They've played tiny clubs, sold out major venues, earned platinum records, and become one of America's favorite live bands. Along the way, life changed. The members got older. Most of them became fathers. They experienced both incredible highs and difficult lows. Instead of pretending those changes never happened, they poured those real life experiences into this album.
The result is a record that feels less like a collection of songs and more like a conversation with an old friend. From the very first track, Heart Stop, you can tell this isn't an album about chasing fame or trying to recreate past success. It's about real people dealing with real life. There are songs about making mistakes, learning from them, holding onto hope, and appreciating the people who stand beside you through everything. Once you listen, you can feel the heart and soul in this album.
Lead singer David Shaw has always been known for writing from the heart, but this time he digs even deeper. Shaw, who has been sober since 2009, says writing music has become a way to work through life's challenges. During the making of Get It Honest, he was also adjusting to fatherhood, and those emotions naturally found their way into the songs. The album's title has an interesting story behind it. Shaw has said the words "Get It Honest" came to him in the middle of the night while he was dreaming. He woke up around 3 a.m., grabbed his phone, and quickly recorded the idea before he forgot it. And what does "Get It Honest" really mean? It's about looking yourself in the mirror and telling the truth. It's about admitting when you've messed up, appreciating what you have, and trying every day to become a better person. That's a message almost anyone can relate to. Musically, The Revivalists haven't abandoned the sound that made fans fall in love with them. You'll still hear soaring saxophone solos, awesome guitars, soulful keyboards, steady rhythms, and David Shaw's powerful voice tying everything together. Their signature blend of rock, soul, blues, funk, and a little New Orleans flavor is alive and well.
But there's something different this time. The music feels a little wiser. It doesn't try to impress you with flashy tricks. Instead, it lets the songs speak for themselves. Several tracks stand out for different reasons. Lost and Found reminds listeners that no matter how lost life can feel, it's always possible to find your way again. Love's the Only Thing carries a simple but powerful message—that love is stronger than anger, fear, or division. The title track, Get It Honest, serves as the emotional centerpiece of the album, encouraging listeners to face life honestly, even when it's uncomfortable.
One of the most emotional songs is As of Now. Inspired by the tragic New Year's Day attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, the song reflects the pain, heartbreak, and resilience of a city that has endured so much while refusing to lose its spirit. One remarkable fact about the album is how much work went into creating it. The band reportedly wrote around 80 songs before narrowing the collection down to the final 12 tracks. That careful process helped ensure every song had a purpose and contributed to the album's overall message.
Critics have praised Get It Honest for its sincerity. Instead of trying to recreate the band's biggest commercial hit, "Wish I Knew You," The Revivalists chose to grow as musicians and songwriters. They embraced honesty over popularity, and many reviewers believe the album is stronger because of that decision. As the album reaches fans, The Revivalists are taking these songs on the road through headline concerts, festival appearances, and performances supporting fellow Southern rock favorites The Red Clay Strays.
