"Red Foil Memories: Revisiting the World of Waco"

Violent Soho has always been the kind of band that felt real. They were loud, rough around the edges, and never seemed too polished or fake. Their songs sounded like life itself—messy, emotional, exciting, frustrating, and sometimes downright chaotic. Back in 2016, they released an album called WACO, and for many fans, it became much more than just a collection of songs. It became part of their lives.

Now, ten years later, on May 8, 2026, the band decided to revisit that special moment by releasing WACO (10th Anniversary Edition). Instead of simply re-releasing the same album and calling it a day, they opened up the vault and gave fans something much deeper, like flipping through an old photo album filled with memories, forgotten moments, and stories that had been tucked away for years. To understand why this release matters so much, you have to go back to 2016.

At the time, Violent Soho was riding a wave of success. Their previous album, Hungry Ghost, had made people pay attention, and suddenly expectations were high. Some bands in that situation try to soften their sound or chase mainstream popularity, but Violent Soho did the opposite. They leaned even harder into loud guitars, emotional lyrics, and songs that felt raw and honest. When WACO arrived, fans connected with it almost instantly.

The album hit number one in Australia, something not many loud rock bands were doing at the time. Songs like “Viceroy,” “Like Soda,” and “No Shade” became huge favorites. You could hear them blasting at festivals, parties, road trips, and in bedrooms where people were trying to make sense of life. But what made WACO special wasn’t just the music, it was the feeling. The songs sounded like growing up. They sounded like struggling, feeling lost, trying to figure things out, making mistakes, and somehow surviving anyway. Whether someone was dealing with heartbreak, stress, friendships falling apart, or just feeling stuck, there seemed to be a Violent Soho song that understood the mood. Fast forward ten years.

By 2026, the band had mostly stepped away from the spotlight after going on hiatus several years earlier. Fans weren’t sure if they would ever really come back. So when news broke that a 10th Anniversary Edition of WACO was coming, excitement spread quickly. This wasn’t just another reissue, it felt personal. The band included rare songs that fans had never officially heard before, including tracks like “Lay Me Down” and “Golden Days.” These songs were created around the original WACO era but never made the final album. For longtime listeners, hearing them felt a little like finding hidden chapters from an old favorite book. And then came the live recordings.

Anyone who ever saw Violent Soho perform knows that concerts were a huge part of what made them special. Their shows were loud, sweaty, wild, and emotional. Fans screamed every lyric like their lives depended on it. The anniversary edition captures some of that energy through live performances from festivals, special hometown shows, and even the band’s famous Christmas gigs at the Mansfield Tavern. One of the most fun surprises included their cover of “Lazy Eye,” originally by Silversun Pickups, from Australia’s popular Like A Version sessions. For many listeners, hearing all of this together feels like stepping back in time.

It reminds people of old friends, summer nights, messy relationships, concerts, road trips, and moments when life felt uncertain but exciting. Some fans first heard WACO while in college. Others played it while working tough jobs or getting through hard times. Ten years later, the songs still hit the same emotional nerve. And maybe that is what makes this anniversary release so meaningful. The band didn’t try to rewrite history or modernize the album. They didn’t over-polish it or turn it into something it wasn’t. Instead, they simply celebrated what made WACO important in the first place.

They treated it like an old friend worth visiting again. Listening to WACO (10th Anniversary Edition) feels a little like opening a box in the attic and finding pieces of your younger self still inside. The music is loud and messy, but the emotions are honest. It reminds listeners of who they were, where they came from, and what they survived. Ten years after its original release, WACO still feels alive. And for fans of Violent Soho, this anniversary edition is more than just a celebration of an album, it is a reminder of a time in life when these songs meant everything.
