"The Whirlybird Compound"

Tucked away in Opelousas, Louisiana, The Whirlybird Compound is one of the coolest hidden music spots in Acadiana.
Run by owners Jim Phillips and Christy Leichty, this place has a true outdoorsy, backwoods vibe. They actually transported an old juke joint onto the property and set it up as the main stage — giving the whole compound that authentic, rustic Louisiana feel.
It’s part live music venue, part artist residency, and part creative sanctuary. The setup is intimate, laid-back, and surrounded by open land, perfect for those warm Louisiana nights under the stars.

Over the years they’ve hosted standout events like The Revelers for a Lundi Gras blowout, the Wacos at the Whirly multi-day festival, old-time throwdowns with Eryn Marshall & Carl Jones, and Honor Band performances celebrating young Cajun and Zydeco musicians. They’ve also put on the Little BIG FUN Festival and regular nights with acts like Luke Huval Band, blending local roots, blues, country, and beyond.
If you’re ever rolling through South Louisiana and want a genuine off-the-beaten-path music experience, The Whirlybird Compound is absolutely worth the detour.
