"ZZ Top's "The Big One!" Tour Keeps the Texas Rock-and-Roll Spirit Alive"

ZZ Top has spent more than 50 years proving that good rock and roll never really goes out of style. In 2026, the legendary Texas trio took that attitude on the road with The Big One! Tour, a major concert run across North America and internationally. The tour brings together the band's familiar mix of blues, rock, boogie, and Southern swagger, giving longtime fans a chance to hear classics such as "La Grange," "Tush," "Sharp Dressed Man," and "Gimme All Your Lovin'" live once again. For a band that has been performing since 1969, The Big One! Tour is another reminder of just how much staying power ZZ Top has built over the decades.
What makes this tour especially meaningful is the history behind the band and the changes it has faced in recent years. ZZ Top lost its longtime bassist Dusty Hill in 2021 after he had spent more than five decades alongside Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard. Rather than retire, the band chose to continue performing, with longtime guitar technician Elwood Francis stepping in on bass. Francis had worked with the group for years and already understood the music, equipment, and stage routines. His addition allowed ZZ Top's songs to continue being played for audiences around the world while keeping Hill's musical spirit close to the band.
The tour took another unexpected turn in August 2026 with the death of drummer Frank Beard, who had been a founding member and the steady heartbeat of ZZ Top since the beginning. Beard's passing left Billy Gibbons as the only remaining original member of the classic trio. Some shows were canceled following his death, but ZZ Top soon returned to the stage. At a concert in Austin, drummer Michael Monahan joined Gibbons and Francis behind the drum kit. Gibbons explained to fans that Beard himself had wanted Monahan to continue the music when his health began to fail. The decision allowed the band to honor Beard's wishes while keeping ZZ Top's legacy alive.
The Big One! Tour has included performances in theaters, amphitheaters, arenas, and major outdoor venues throughout the United States. The schedule has also featured appearances in Europe, Mexico, and South America. ZZ Top has shared some dates with other well-known rock acts, including Cheap Trick and George Thorogood & The Destroyers. The variety of venues and special guests reflects the band's continued ability to attract audiences from different generations. Whether playing a large festival crowd or a smaller theater, ZZ Top continues to deliver the same recognizable sound that made the group famous.
