“From Scarborough Streets to The Black Keys Tour: Jeremie Albino’s proof of authenticity”
(Artist Report)
Written by: Cody Denning
Toronto-born roots rocker Jeremie Albino grew up in Scarborough to a Filipino father and Québécois mother. He discovered blues at seven when his dad handed him B.B. King and John Lee Hooker compilations. By fourteen he was teaching himself guitar through YouTube videos of Skip James, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Big Bill Broonzy, and Mississippi Fred McDowell.
He started busking on Toronto’s waterfront boardwalk and downtown corners. Most days nobody stopped, but the few who did listened. Filled with excitement they told him it sounded great! That was enough to hook him on performing. In his late teens he moved to Prince Edward County, where he spent nearly a decade working farms, most notably at Vicki’s Veggies. Farming was his first real passion, but music stayed his winter obsession. He’d return to Toronto each off-season, playing every small room that would have him.
That grind caught the ear of producer Crispin Day, who helped him record his debut album “Hard Time,” released in 2019. Two years later he teamed with Cat Clyde for the collaborative record “Blue Blue Blue.” His 2023 album “Tears You Hide” sharpened his sound, but 2024’s “Our Time In The Sun,” produced by Dan Auerbach at Nashville’s Easy Eye Sound, became his breakthrough — blending gritty country storytelling, old-school R&B grooves, early rock ‘n’ roll energy, and deep southern soul.
Albino’s live shows are unpredictable affairs that pack houses across Canada and the U.S. Right now he’s opening select dates on The Black Keys’ 2026 Peaches N’ Kream tour, giving him his biggest stage yet.
From street corners and farm fields to Nashville studios and arena tours, Albino’s path has been authentic, and completely his own.
