“Distortion and Direction: Bass Drum of Death’s DIY Revival”
(Artist Update)
Written by: Ginny Gaines
Bass Drum of Death has been pretty busy lately and has a lot going on. They just put out a new song called “Do Nothing” at the end of June 2025. The song comes with a fun, retro-style music video that looks like something out of the 1980s. It’s a taste of their next album. They’re getting ready to release a new album called Six on September 12, 2025. This will be their sixth album. They went back to their roots, recording some of it in their own home studio in Nashville before polishing it up in a bigger studio. The band members working on this new album are John Barrett (the founder and frontman), Jim Barrett (guitar), and Ian Kirkpatrick (drums).
They’re hitting the road this fall for a big U.S. tour to support the new album. The tour will run from September through November, with shows in places like St. Louis, Phoenix, San Diego, and Columbia (Missouri). Some dates are already announced, and more will be coming soon. They also played at a festival in Nashville in early June 2025 called Jorts Fest, where they previewed some of their new songs live.

Before all this, in June 2024, they released their first live album called Live… and Let Die, recorded during a show in Chicago. That album shows off how raw and energetic they sound on stage. n short, they’re keeping busy with new music, a fresh album, and a big tour and they seem excited to reconnect with fans and show off their garage-rock energy. The band hits the road starting September 20, playing cities like NYC, L.A., Seattle, and Orlando. This tour ends November 22 in Missouri. Some of the opening acts include Native Sun, Farmer’s Wife, and Gus Baldwin + The Sketch, depending on the city.
