Days N Daze is a folk-punk band from Houston, Texas, started in 2008 by two friends, Whitney Flynn and Jesse Sendejas. They didn’t have the money for electric instruments at first, so they went fully acoustic—using guitar, trumpet, banjo, and ukulele. Over time, they added Geoff Bell on a homemade stand-up bass (gutbucket) and Meagan Melancon on washboard. They call their style “H-Town Thrashgrass”, basically fast, chaotic folk music mixed with punk energy. Some also call it “riot folk.” It’s raw, loud (even without amps), and full of emotion.

Days N Daze runs on a DIY (do-it-yourself) approach. They record their own music, make their own album art, book their own tours, and even handle their own merch. In the early days, they recorded albums in Jesse’s dad’s closet. They also have a motto: “Friends, not fans”, treating their audience like part of the crew, not just ticket buyers.

Whitney and Jesse actually dated in high school, then broke up years later—but kept the band going. That breakup fed into some of their most emotional music, especially the 2013 album Rogue Taxidermy. They’ve stayed close friends, though touring together has sometimes been challenging. The albums they are best known for are Rogue Taxidermy (2013), the album that really made people notice them, Crustfall (2017), a mix of humor, heartbreak, and collaborations with other punk artists, and Show Me the Blueprints (2020), their first album with punk label Fat Wreck Chords, made in a proper studio but still keeping their scrappy style.

Days N Daze concerts are wild—people dance, sing along, and sometimes even strip down in the excitement. They’ve played everything from backyard shows to big international festivals, touring across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia. Days N Daze also gave back for example, they played Folxmas, a holiday-time benefit for local food banks and EmmaFest, a festival honoring a late friend, raising awareness about harm reduction.

As of 2025, Whitney seems to be taking some time off, while Jesse keeps writing and working on music. The future is a bit uncertain, but the band hasn’t officially called it quits, and fans are still hopeful for more. Days N Daze is a high-energy folk-punk band with an underground spirit, built on friendship, honesty, and a love for chaotic, heartfelt music.
