“Swedish Stoner Rock, Still Rolling After 30 Years”

(Artist Report)

Written by: Rex Harlan

Dozer formed in Borlänge, Sweden, back in 1995. Four teenagers—Fredrik Nordin on guitar and vocals, Tommi Holappa on guitar, Johan Rockner on bass, Erik Bäckwall on drums—started out covering Sabbath, then eased into originals. They built that slow, fuzzy sound that fit long winters and short daylight—just right for where they were.
Their debut, In The Tail of a Comet, landed in 2000—recorded raw in a local studio, no bells or whistles. Next came Madre de Dios in 2001, Call It Conspiracy in 2003, and Through the Eyes of Heathens in 2005. All four shipped through Small Stone in the States and Molton Metal in Europe.

After 2005, the pace dropped. No big announcement—just everyday stuff pulling them away: jobs, moves, families. The band didn’t split; it simply went quiet.
2019 changed that. Nordin and Holappa stayed on, brought in fresh blood on bass and drums. They stepped back onstage, playing European festivals like Desertfest—the crowds came back like nothing had changed.
In 2023, they put out Drifting in the Endless Void—their first full-length since the old days. Self-produced, ten tracks, clocking in at forty-five minutes. Same low-tuned guitars, mid-tempo drive, vocals tucked in just enough to let everything breathe.
As of March 25, 2026, they’re still active. They have European dates listed on Bandsintown, site keeps updating, no new album on the horizon yet. The sound’s stayed steady—no chase, no pivot.
We will continue to keep you updated on everything here at Soundwave. Thanks for reading. Keep scrolling. Keep listening.
