Mick Ralphs, Born: March 31, 1944, was a British guitarist best known for helping start two classic rock bands: Mott the Hoople and Bad Company. He began his music career in the 1960s and built his reputation with his smooth guitar style and powerful riffs. .

Mick first got noticed with Mott the Hoople, a band that made waves in the glam rock scene of the early ’70s. He played guitar and wrote songs, including early versions of hits like “Ready for Love.” The band broke through big time when David Bowie helped produce their album All the Young Dudes. But creative differences led Mick to leave the group.

In 1973, Mick teamed up with singer Paul Rodgers, drummer Simon Kirke, and bassist Boz Burrell to form Bad Company. They were the first band signed to Led Zeppelin’s label and quickly became one of the biggest rock acts of the '70s. Mick wrote or co-wrote several of their big hits, including:

• “Can’t Get Enough”

• “Feel Like Makin’ Love”

• “Movin’ On”
  His guitar style was a huge part of their success—gritty, catchy, and packed with feeling.

After Bad Company’s first run ended in the early ’80s, Mick put out a few solo albums and toured with artists like Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour. He later reunited with both Bad Company and Mott the Hoople for some nostalgic live shows. In 2016, after a concert in London, Mick suffered a stroke that left him unable to perform again. He spent his remaining years in a care facility, away from the spotlight.

Mick Ralphs passed away on June 23, 2025, at 81. Although the cause of death wasn't announced, it followed nearly a decade of health issues after his stroke.
He left behind a partner, Susie, two children, and three stepchildren. His bandmates and fans around the world paid tribute to his work and friendship. Paul Rodgers, in particular, called him a “brilliant and versatile guitarist” who had a great sense of humor.
Mick’s death came shortly before Bad Company was set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame—a well-deserved honor for a musician who left a lasting mark on classic rock.
