Sullvn Revives Ska-Punk Classic with Star-Studded Cover of “The Impression That I Get”

San Diego’s dynamic 10-piece collective, sullvn, has released their electrifying cover of the iconic ska-punk anthem “The Impression That I Get” by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. The track, a bold reimagining of the 1997 classic, has earned the official endorsement of Bosstones frontman Dicky Barrett, who also makes a special cameo in the song’s vibrant music video. Adding to the star power, Matt Appleton of Reel Big Fish delivers standout performances on trombone, saxophone, and trumpet, infusing the track with authentic ska flair.
Led by Robert “Sully” Sullivan, sullvn is a powerhouse ensemble featuring world-class musicians, including GRAMMY-nominated bassist James East (Lionel Richie, Toni Braxton, Eric Clapton), saxophonist Tripp Sprague (Kenny Loggins, Smokey Robinson, Todd Rundgren), and guitarist Brian Jordan (James Brown, Dave Matthews, The Allman Brothers Band). The group’s diverse talent and infectious energy breathe new life into this beloved anthem, blending nostalgic ska-punk roots with a modern edge.
In tandem with the single release, sullvn proudly announces their signing to Big Noise Music Group, joining an impressive roster. The band is poised for a breakout moment as they gear up for a big performance at Kentucky’s Bourbon & Beyond Festival next weekend, followed by a slot opening for Goldfinger in Las Vegas.
