"No Rules, No Shoreline: Impending Joy Rides The Waves of Underground Rock"
(Artist Report)
Written by: Melody Brown
Impending Joy is a frenetic psych rock and garage punk band bursting out of the vibrant music scene of Asheville, North Carolina. Formed by songwriter and guitarist Brendan Grove alongside a talented lineup consisting of Torren Brown (guitar/vocals), Jono Cerrud (drummers), and Izzy Rolow (bass), the band skillfully delivers a driving, surf punk sound. Their energetic, sonic landscape is often compared to a cross between bands like Surf Curse and OSEES, blending '60s inspired psychedelia with raw garage grit.
The breakthrough of their discography is their debut self-titled album, Impending Joy, which officially dropped on February 2, 2024. The 7-track, 29-minute record is a journey through nostalgic familiarity and features popular tracks such as "Limb Snatcher," and "Food Lion Nirvana". Just as the snake sheds skin, the band also embraces a new cycle. More recently, the group recorded the moody, psych odyssey "Antivenom" at Jam Room Recording Studio with engineer Zac Thomas, featuring synthesizer work by Josh Menashe of Frankie and the Witch Fingers. Released in late summer, "Antivenom" is a 5-minute hypnotic listen into the band's upcoming EP, By Way Of The Snake.
Impending Joy gets a lot of attention for their high energy live shows, building a fierce reputation through extensive touring across the East Coast. Taking a true DIY approach to get their music out there. Kicking off their 2024 album drop with a killer release show at Asheville’s Eulogy. This release immediately catapulted them onto the regional circuit, packing their schedule with dynamic festival sets and high energy supporting slots.
Impending Joy’s relentless tour history has solidified their reputation as a ferocious, must see live act across the East Coast. The band has built a dedicated underground following through raw, face melting performances. While they are currently off the road following a massive run of 2026 festival appearances, the group has shifted their focus entirely toward the studio.
They are channeling their signature energy into finalizing their highly anticipated upcoming EP, By Way Of The Snake. The band is also working on a brand new music video. This is a temporary pause in touring, keep your eyes peeled for Impending Joy. They will return to the stage with an even bigger wave to ride. Guaranteed to bring an explosive live set.
