“Rolling Quartz: South Korea’s Harbingers of Heavy Rock”

Rolling Quartz is a five-piece, all-female rock band from South Korea. Their colorful, punk-adjacent image and energetic demeanor are indicative of their hard-hitting sound. They aren’t shy about giving out heavy riffs and guitar-driven licks, the likes of which can be found in their single “Masquerade.” Paired with passionate and powerful vocals, Rolling Quartz make themselves a formidable example of the current generation’s Korean rock scene.
Rolling Quartz has been active since 2019 after merging the two bands Rolling Girlz and Rose Quartz. The band includes Yeong Eun on drums, Iree and Hyunjung on guitar, Arem on bass guitar, and Jayoung on vocals. They’ve released several singles including “Fearless” and “Blaze”. Other releases include their debut EP “Fighting”, which came out in 2022, and their album “Victory” that followed in 2024. Their discography also features instrumental versions of many of their tracks.
During live shows, lead singer Jayoung is sure to engage the crowd and her bandmates by bringing up the energy through claps and chants, even leading the audience through simple vocal melodies. Iree and Hyunjung take turns shredding their guitars, Arem rips through bass runs, and Yeong Eun attacks the drums with true rock force. One can also witness the undeniable chemistry that the women have with each other as a band through their stage choreography and tight musicianship.
Rolling Quartz brought their raw and mighty representation of K-rock across the United States and Canada on their My Turn tour which included a show at the iconic Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles, California and finished off in Dallas, Texas on October 9.
