“Surf Hat’s Audiotree Live: Squamish Psych Surf Goes Raw”
(Artist Update)
Written by: Rex Harlan
Look, Surf Hat’s from Squamish, British Columbia. Mountains, not beaches. We’re talking snow-covered pines and guys in hoodies hauling amps up dirt roads; like it’s Tuesday. Jon Allan sings and rips guitar, Evan Camm on drums, Matt Burnham on bass, Riley Voth on keys. They kicked off back in 2023, no big label, no drama, just psych-surf slacker rock that sticks.
On 3/20/26, they roll into Audiotree Chicago. This has been one of the indie rock staples since 2011: located in Wicker Park studio, this place mics up quick, giving artists two hours on a live YouTube broadcast to test their bones before they hit the road. This is a great place to prep for the grind.
The release starts with that twangy vibe, then slides right into beachy rock and roll. And now the band song Bowling Alley Thug is blowing up with thirteen million streams. These guys continue to grow—Surf Hat keeps evolving.
Squamish ain’t rock central. But these guys? They’re turning backcountry into waves, with a heavy spirit in a surf style.
Rex here, saying thanks for reading. Keep scrolling, keep listening.
