Fruit Bats, the indie-folk rock project led by singer/songwriter Eric D. Johnson, has been more than busy since we last wrote about them. With new music released and more coming, we figured it was time for an update.

Fruit Bats are set to release their latest single, “Baby Man,” on September 12, 2025, via Merge Records. Described by Johnson as an ode to people pleasers, the track explores themes of self sacrifice and navigating personal struggles, with a introspective tone that may reflect his own apprehensions about the band’s evolving sound. The single is expected to be a more subdued offering compared to the band’s typically upbeat catalog, potentially serving as a mission statement for an upcoming album. Posts on X have highlighted excitement for the single, with the band’s label, Merge Records, actively promoting it for radio adds. Fans are excited about the possibility of a new album.

Fruit Bats are gearing up for an extensive 2025 tour, kicking off on April 5 in Seattle, Washington, and spanning major cities across the United States, Canada, and Europe. The tour promises a mix of fan favorites like “Humbug Mountain Song,” “When U Love Somebody,” and “The Ruminant Band,” alongside new material, including “Baby Man.”
The tour will feature special guest appearances from indie folk and rock artists, though specific names are yet to be announced.

Fruit Bats continue to create incredible music and push forward with massive tours. The band’s 2024 tour included standout performances at festivals like Wonderfront in San Diego and Mill Valley Music Festival, as well as a two-night stint at Portland’s Aladdin Theater. Fans have raved about the band’s live energy.
