The Strokes are an American rock band formed in New York City in 1998. Renowned for their significant contribution to the garage rock revival of the early 2000s, the band consists of Julian Casablancas (lead vocals), Nick Valensi (lead guitar and backing vocals), Albert Hammond Jr. (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), Nikolai Fraiture (bass guitar), and Fabrizio Moretti (drums). Their unique sound blends rock, punk, and new wave elements, creating a fresh, energetic aesthetic that resonated with critics and fans alike.

The Strokes released their debut album, "Is This It," in July 2001. The album was met with widespread critical acclaim, quickly establishing the band as a major player in the music scene. "Is This It" was characterized by its lo-fi production, catchy melodies, and Julian Casablancas's distinctive vocal style, leading to hits like "Last Nite" and "Hard to Explain." The album's success helped energise a new wave of rock bands, and The Strokes became emblematic of a burgeoning scene that included bands like The White Stripes and The Hives.

Following the success of their debut, The Strokes released their sophomore album, "Room on Fire," in 2003. Continuing in the same vein as their debut, this album further honed their sound and solidified their place in the music landscape. Tracks like "12:51" and "Reptilia" received heavy radio play and helped maintain the band's popularity. With their signature sound, a mix of catchy hooks and driving rhythms, The Strokes effectively captured the essence of early 2000s rock.

The 2006 album "First Impressions of Earth" slightly departed from their earlier sound, experimenting with different musical styles and song structures. While initially met with mixed reviews, it now holds a special place in their discography, showcasing the band's evolution. Singles like "Juicebox" and "Heart in a Cage" highlighted their willingness to push boundaries and explore new musical territory.

After a hiatus that allowed the members to pursue solo projects, The Strokes regrouped and released "Angles" in 2011. While it met with varied responses, the album included fan favourites such as "Under Cover of Darkness." The band continued to evolve, experimenting with more varied compositions in their following releases, "Comedown Machine" (2013) and "The New Abnormal" (2020). Their latest album was well-received, winning a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album and featuring standout tracks like "Bad Decisions" and "At the Door."

Throughout their career, The Strokes have earned a reputation for their electrifying live performances and charismatic stage presence. Their music has influenced countless artists and remains a staple in the rock genre. Their blend of nostalgic rock elements with modern sensibilities has ensured their enduring appeal, and they continue to resonate with both old and new fans alike.
