Today’s report is about a band from Austin, Texas called A Giant Dog.The band was formed in 2008 by Sabrina Ellis and Andrew Cashen, who had known each other since their teenage years in Houston Texas. The pair moved to Austin together and began making music as a duo. Eventually the sound got thicker and they brought in drummer Orville Neeley to complete the initial lineup.

A Giant Dog released their first EP titled House in 2010. They followed that up with the 7-inch single “The Grand” b/w “QYJARA” in 2012, which helped them start gaining attention outside of Texas. The bands debut full-length album Bone came out in 2013 on Tic Tac Totally Records. This record hit hard and really captured the band’s raw garage rock sound. This album quickly earned them a growing following who would support the band through constant touring across the Southern and Midwestern United States.

In 2016 they released their second album Pile on Merge Records. This was a big move for the band, as Merge was a much larger and more influential label. They toured extensively behind this record, playing shows across the United States and parts of Europe, breaking into a whole new fan base.

Their third album Toy arrived in 2017, continuing to showcase their high-energy mix of punk, garage rock, and classic rock & roll. By this point they had developed a reputation for delivering wild and unpredictable live performances night after night. From what we can see in our research, the group would continue touring but would take a break from writing and recording.

A Giant Dog returned in 2023 with their most recent album Bite. The record showed the band maintaining their raw, irreverent energy while tightening up their songwriting and production compared to their earlier work. Showing the world they are a well put together band.

Over the course of their career, the band has grown from playing small house shows and DIY venues in Texas to touring nationally and internationally. They have consistently built their fanbase through relentless road work rather than mainstream exposure.

Sabrina Ellis and Andrew Cashen have remained the core creative forces of A Giant Dog throughout its entire existence. Their long-standing musical chemistry and shared history have been key to the band’s identity and longevity. We look forward to the bands next release and catching up with them on the road sometime!

That’s it for this report! Keep supporting music and supporting rock culture, we will keep our ear to the ground. Thanks for reading.
