Sports Team is a British indie rock band that started around 2016 when most of the members were students at Cambridge University. They’re known for their energetic live shows, witty lyrics, and a love for poking fun at everyday British life—like chain pubs, motorways, and awkward social habits. The current members of the band are Alex Rice (lead singer,) Rob Knaggs (rhythm guitar,) Henry Young (lead guitar,) Oli Dewdney (bass,) Al Greenwood
(drums,) and - Ben Mack (keyboards.)

Imagine if Blur, The Libertines, and Parquet Courts had a lovechild raised on British suburbia and sarcasm. Their music is loud, fast, and full of clever lyrics that make you laugh and think at the same time. They’ve been compared to bands like Blur, Pulp, and The Libertines, but with their own sarcastic, over-the-top twist.

In 2018, Sports Team released their debut EP. This EP has 5 tracks on it that include "Beverly Rose" and "Stanton". This Ep showed the band had promise. The band released their next EP titled Keep Walking in 2019. This EP has 5 songs on it that include "M5," "Get Along," and "Georgie." This EP was a step up in sound and confidence. They released their debut album titled Deep Down Happy in 2020. This album has 12 tracks on it that include "Lander," "Here It Comes Again," "Long Hot Summer," "Feels Like Fun," "Born Sugar," "Kutcher," and "Stations of the Cross." This album was packed with fan favorites.

Sports Team released their next album titled Gulp! in 2022. This album has 10 songs on it that include "The Game," "The Drop," "Unstuck," "R Entertainment," "Fingers (Taken Off)," and "Light Industry." This album was praised for being funny, sharp, and packed with energy. In May 2025, the band released their latest album titled Boys These Days. This album has 10 tracks on it that include "I'm In Love (Subaru)," "Moving Today," "Sensible," "Planned Obsolescence," "Bonnie," and "Maybe When We're 30." This album has been well received by fans.

Sports Team gigs are pure chaos, in the best way. Fans sing every word, Alex Rice struts and dances like he’s half frontman, half stand-up comic, and the band leans into the ridiculousness. They’ve played huge festivals like Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds and even sold out Brixton Academy, proving their cult following is real. In late 2024, while touring the U.S., they got robbed outside a Starbucks in California. Gear, passports, and even their Nintendo Switches were stolen. But they still played their show that night and joked online that no one could steal their ability to rock out.

They’ve gone from tiny pub gigs to big international tours. In 2025, they’re hitting major venues across Europe, the U.S., and Mexico and their fanbase keeps growing. Sports Team might not take themselves too seriously, but that’s exactly why they stand out. In a time when guitar bands can feel a little too polished or safe, they bring back the wild, funny, slightly chaotic spirit of classic British indie rock. Love them or hate them, you can’t deny they’ve made guitar music exciting again.
