"Heavy Days Again: Celebrating the Return of JEFF the Brotherhood"
(Artist Update)
Written by: Ginny Gaines
For more than 20 years, brothers Jake and Jamin Orrall have been making loud, unpredictable and sometimes downright wild rock music as JEFF the Brotherhood. What started in Nashville when the brothers were teenagers grew into one of the city's most unusual rock bands. Jake handled guitar and vocals while Jamin played drums, and together they created a huge sound that made people forget they were watching only two musicians. Their music mixed garage rock, punk, psychedelia and heavy guitar riffs, and their energetic live shows quickly earned them a following far beyond Nashville.
JEFF the Brotherhood really began gaining attention with albums like Heavy Days in 2009 and We Are the Champions in 2011. Those records captured the band's rough-and-ready style and helped turn the brothers into nationally known underground rockers. They eventually signed with Warner Bros. and worked with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, who produced their 2012 album Hypnotic Nights. Even as the band became more successful, Jake and Jamin never seemed interested in playing it safe. Their later records became more experimental, with albums such as Global Chakra Rhythms, Zone and Magick Songs showing just how far they were willing to stretch their sound.
Eventually, though, JEFF the Brotherhood slowed down. The brothers began living in different places and concentrating on other parts of their lives and other creative projects. Jamin became involved in puppetry and other artistic work in Los Angeles, while Jake moved to New Orleans and continued making music. The COVID-19 pandemic also put a stop to touring for much of the music world. For several years, JEFF the Brotherhood was mostly quiet as a live band, leaving fans wondering whether the group had quietly reached the end of its story.
But the connection between the brothers never completely disappeared. They continued working together from time to time, and in recent years they became involved with the experimental project Vorhex Angel alongside musician Kunal Prakash. The brothers also revisited JEFF material, including the 2025 project Magick Songs in Dub, which gave songs from Magick Songs a completely different treatment. Those projects showed that Jake and Jamin were still creating music together, even if JEFF the Brotherhood itself wasn't regularly appearing on stages.
Now, in 2026, JEFF the Brotherhood is officially coming back to the road. The brothers have announced a series of live dates that mark their first substantial tour in years. Instead of trying to pretend nothing has changed, the comeback looks back at the music that helped build the band's reputation in the first place. The shows are expected to feature songs from Heavy Days and We Are the Champions, giving longtime fans a chance to hear some of the band's most recognizable early material performed by the two people who created it.
The return includes dates around the country, with stops in places such as New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Nashville. The Nashville show on December 4 is particularly fitting because it brings JEFF back to the city where the story began. The band will perform at The Truth alongside Acid Bath and Windhand, putting the Orrall brothers back in front of a Nashville audience after years away. At this point, there has been no official announcement of a new JEFF the Brotherhood studio album, so the focus is firmly on the live comeback.
For JEFF the Brotherhood, this isn't simply about digging an old band out of the past. Jake and Jamin have spent years growing as musicians and artists, and now they're returning to the music that first put them on the map with all of that experience behind them. Whether this becomes a permanent new chapter or simply a special run of shows remains to be seen. For now, though, the message is clear: after years away, the Orrall brothers are plugging in, turning up the volume and bringing JEFF the Brotherhood back to where it belongs, On A Stage!
