"Drunk Mums: Loud, Wild, and Proudly Aussie"
(Artist Report)
Written by: Ginny Gaines
Drunk Mums are a punky rock band from Melbourne, Australia. They started in 2011 and quickly became known for their loud, fast, and fun music. The name? It came from real-life drunk mums who used to heckle them at gigs—true story. They are known for their mix of garage rock and punk energy, the kind of music that makes you want to jump around, shout, and party. The band often has a tongue-in-cheek attitude about life, work, and having fun when times are tough. Drunk Mums current members are Jake Doyle (guitar and vocals), Dean Whitby (guitar and vocals), Adam Ritchie (bass and vocals), and Jonny Badlove (drums and vocals).
Drunk Mums built their name in Australia’s underground rock scene through hard touring and rowdy live shows. Before their latest album, they had already released a few albums and EPs, including the 2018 record Urban Cowboy, which helped spread their name overseas. Their music fits in the same neighborhood as bands like Amyl and the Sniffers and Guitar Wolf, fast, spirited, and full of attitude.
The band released their first self titled album in 2012. This album has 11 songs on it that include "Chitty Chitty," "Switchblade," "Rubbing Your Gums," "Dying To Please You," "Out Stayed Your Welcome," and "Made It Or Not." This album was self released. They released their next album titled Gone Troppo in 2015. This album has 14 tracks on it that include "Stinny's Voice," "Pub On My Own," "Plastic," "Not Here To Talk," "Backyard Hit," "Vitamin D," and "Dirty Birmy." This album was more polished but still wild.
In 2018, Drunk Mums released their next album titled Urban Cowboy. This album has 10 songs on it that include "Phantom Limb," "Hellfire," "You Got It," "Borderline," "Rockin' All Night," and "Ripper." After releasing this album the band took a break from recording for about four years. They came back in early 2024 and released their latest album titled Beer Baby. This album has 10 tracks on it that include "New Austrailia," "Mutant," "Bet On Black," "Magazines," :Saturday," and "From The Hip." This album was their comeback album after their break.

Drunk Mums keep things simple and dirty, but in a good way. Their sound is inspired by old-school punk rock and garage bands from the 1970s and ‘80s. There’s no fancy production, no auto-tune, just real instruments, real vocals, and loads of energy. Their lyrics usually touch on everyday struggles, like working hard for little pay or trying to enjoy life despite money problems. But they don’t take themselves too seriously, there’s always humor and attitude in their songs.
If there’s one thing Drunk Mums are famous for, it’s their live shows. They’ve played all over Australia, as well as in the UK, Europe, the US, New Zealand, and Indonesia. They’ve also shared stages with some big punk and rock names like Amyl and the Sniffers, Richie Ramone, and Guitar Wolf, and have appeared at major events like Laneway Festival, BIGSOUND, and Boogie. Fans describe their concerts as wild, sweaty, and unforgettable, just pure, loud fun.
Even though they’re not a mainstream radio band, Drunk Mums have built a loyal fan base around the world. They’ve had over 30 million streams on music platforms. They’ve released more than 50 songs since forming the band. Their music continues to reach new audiences, especially since their return with Beer Baby. Drunk Mums are part of a wave of Aussie punk bands that keep things real. No big record deals, no glossy image, just music that hits hard and feels honest. Fans love them because they’re relatable, ridiculous, and totally themselves.
