(New Release)
Written by: Ginny Gaines
Dr. Dog, the American psychedelic rock band, surprised fans with their eleventh studio album. When they announced their final tour in 2021, many speculated that the band was calling it quits. However, Dr. Dog clarified that they weren’t breaking up; they simply wanted to explore life beyond the band. This exploration led to the creation of their new record. The recording process for Dr. Dog was influenced by guitarist Scott McMicken’s experience recording with Big Thief. The initial sessions took place at bassist Toby Leaman’s uncle’s cabin in Forksville, Pennsylvania. The band captured their excitement and immediacy, playing live together and creating a vibrant chemistry.
Dr. Dog defies conventions. Lead guitarist Scott McMicken took over as producer, but this album is a collective effort. The five members, two decades into their career, sound more focused and connected than ever. They tossed the songwriting rule book out the window, resulting in a consistently enticing LP. Expect moments of vibrant psychedelic folk and honest songwriting. The self titled album has 11 songs on it that include "Authority," "Lost Ones," "Talk Is Cheap," "Tell Your Friends," "Fine White Lies," and "Love Struck."
Dr. Dog's self-titled album has been met with amazing success. It has been praised by fans and critics alike for its authenticity, musicality, and lyrical depth. The album has also generated significant buzz on social media, with many fans claiming it is the band's best work to date. Their album is a triumphant return to form. It is a record that both satisfies longtime fans and introduces the band to a new generation of listeners. With its rich melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and flawless musicianship, the album is a testament to the band's talent, skills and creativity.
